Rarely frequented by anyone other than members of the Aquatics Fitness Center at the end of Righters Ferry Road, a remote corner of Bala Cynwyd could soon see significantly more visitors, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for the Main Line Media News.

A major condominium complex is already being constructed on a former industrial site along one side of Righters Ferry Road, while a project to build two hotels on property owned by Penn Real Estate Group is currently under consideration.

Fred Fromhold, attorney for Penn, said the proposed development would fit between the historic Pencoyd Iron Works building and the Aquatics and Fitness Center. In between is a pair of post-World War II buildings that would need to be demolished.

Fromhold’s proposal is to “combine these properties, continue to preserve the historic building where Penn Real Estate’s business offices are located, and there would be two new hotels that are contemplated on the adjoining property.”

He added that this project takes into account the historic nature of the site, and would comply with existing development regulations.

“We believe that this project very much accomplishes that,” said Fromhold.
