Ira Lubert, principal owner of King of Prussia’s Valley Forge Casino Resort and chair of Penn State’s Board of Trustees, has donated $5 million to the university, writes Mark Wogenrich for The Morning Call.

$2.4 million of this will go to the Millennium Scholars program while another $1.75 million will help finance renovations to Penn State’s Lasch Football Building.

The Lasch Building, Penn State’s football home for nearly two decades, has been undergoing updates for several years. However, Coach James Franklin emphasized that some of the spaces in the building, such as the coaches’ offices and meeting rooms, have not been touched in over a decade.

In fact, he estimates that around 60 percent of Lasch is still the same as when he first joined the program.

“The sense of urgency is there because, if we had been pecking away at this for the last 20 years, then no upgrades would be needed,” said Franklin.”The fact that we hadn’t done anything for 15 years … we had fallen behind.”
