Forbes has published its inaugural list of America’s Top 500 Public Companies with three Montgomery County businesses making the cut, writes Corinne Jurney for Forbes.
The magazine based its ranking by applying scores in equally-weighted categories, including revenue, profits, and market value at March 31, 2017.
The companies on the list had a combined $11.1 trillion in revenue for the twelve month period, a decline of 4.3 percent over the year.
However, these companies also accounted for $944 billion in profit, an increase of close to six percent. They also have a combined market capitalization of nearly $21.1 trillion, 7.1 percent higher than the top 500 companies in 2016.
Horsham’s Toll Brothers, the developer of luxury homes, ranked 475th with sales of $5.2 billion, profits of $379 million and a market value of $5.9 billion.
King of Prussia’s UGI, the retail distributor of propane and butane, came in 378th with sales of $5.8 billion, profits of $481 million and a market value of $8.5 billion.
However, the highest ranking Montgomery County company was Universal Health Services in 275th. UHS recorded sales of $9.8 billion and profits of $702 million giving it a market value of $12 billion.
