Two Montgomery County malls, now offer visitors the chance to pick up their packages or drop off return items with Amazon Lockers, writes Suzette Parmley for Philly.com.

Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust now offers Amazon lockers at 15 of its East Coast malls including Plymouth Meeting and Willow Grove Park Malls. The malls, which have been suffering from increasing online purchases, are adding the lockers as a way of attracting more foot traffic to their locations.

“We fully embrace the growing intersection of physical and digital retail,” said PREIT CEO, Joe Coradino.

While there are no official numbers on the additional foot traffic generated by the lockers, PREIT spokeswoman Heather Crowell said that there are thousands of packages that are coming through the lockers each month.

She noted that “they are used more frequently when there is a college or university nearby,” pointing out that Willow Grove Park Mall is close to the Penn State Abington campus.

Crowell also stated that PREIT is considering building out some space in its malls that would be allocated for online retailers to complement their online presence with a physical one.
