Founded in Germantown in 1892, Asher’s Chocolate Co. is today based in Souderton and operated by the fifth generation of the Asher family, reports Hank Flynn for FOX 29 Philadelphia.
With Easter approaching, the store is welcoming crowds of customers searching for treats in every shape and size.
Chester Asher, the current owner, prefers to run things the old-fashioned way. The popular Easter eggs, for example, are still wrapped by hand in shiny foil.
“We call them our deluxe foiled eggs,” said Asher.
Available flavors include Milk Chocolate Vanilla Buttercream Filled Egg, Dark Chocolate Vanilla Buttercream Filled Egg, Dark Chocolate Coconut Cream Filled Egg, and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Meltaway Filled Egg.
Meanwhile, another item that has seen minimal change over time is the Window Box Egg.
“It’s very traditional, and I don’t think it’s gonna go anywhere,” said Asher.
Production of Easter candy has already been completed to guarantee that retailers have plenty of time for the selling season.
“We start producing around January, and we are finished by Valentine’s,” said Asher.
Christmas and Easter are the company’s busiest seasons, requiring careful planning and preparation to ensure everything is done in time.
