A data center proposal in Linfield is officially on the table, adding to a growing list of large-scale projects across Montgomery County, writes Evan Brandt for The Times Herald.
Township officials confirmed that an application has been submitted for a massive development at the former Publicker Distillery site. The proposal calls for nearly 1.8 million square feet of data center space across eight buildings on more than 190 acres at 1301 Main Street.
The project, backed by the Limerick Town Center, would also include a major utility component, with a PECO switchyard and substation planned to support the energy demands of the facility. Water, sewer, and gas services would be provided by regional utilities, underscoring the scale of infrastructure required.
This marks the fifth active data center proposal within a relatively small regional footprint, including projects near the Philadelphia Premium Outlets and in nearby Conshohocken. The clustering has sparked growing concerns among residents and officials about cumulative impacts on power supply, water usage, and environmental conditions.
The Linfield proposal will now move through the township’s conditional use process, with final approval resting in the hands of local supervisors.
As demand for data processing continues to surge, Montgomery County is increasingly at the center of the conversation around how and where these projects should move forward.
