Redemption Night: Friends’ Central Tops Westtown for PAISAA Crown

Friends’ Central wins first PAISAA title over Westtown; Hill School claims boys crown in big night for Montco basketball.

Wynnewood basketball had a championship night to remember, writes Owen Hewitt for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Friends’ Central School captured its first-ever PAISAA girls’ basketball title Friday, defeating powerhouse Westtown School, 62-54.

For Friends’ Central, the win was years in the making. After falling to Westtown in the previous two state title games and in league play this season, the Phoenix finally flipped the script.

Junior guard Ryan Carter battled through a late-game injury scare and returned to help seal the victory, finishing with 12 points. Zya Small led the way with 18, while Kayla Snyder added 14 as the Phoenix closed out a 27-6 season.

Westtown entered the matchup riding a four-year PAISAA championship streak. Despite 27 points from standout Jordyn Palmer, the run ended in a hard-fought finale that marked the final high school game for Ohio State-bound guard Atlee Vanesko.

The celebration extended beyond Wynnewood. The Hill School in Pottstown secured the boys’ state title with a 74-56 win over Phelps School. Ethan Johnston scored 22 points, and Ben Natal added 21 as the Rams dominated the third quarter en route to their first championship since 2018.

Friends’ Central now advances to The Throne, a national tournament in New Jersey, keeping Montco basketball in the spotlight.
