Barrack Hebrew Academy and Perelman Day School Merge to Form Unified Pre-K–12 School

Barrack Hebrew Academy and Perelman Day School join to create the region’s only independent Jewish day school for pre-K through 12th grade.

Barrack Hebrew Academy and Perelman Day School are joining to create the region’s only independent Jewish pre-K through 12th-grade day school right in Montco, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The combined school, which has not yet been named, is set to begin operations in fall 2027, pending regulatory approval. Earlier this week, the boards of The Barrack, serving grades 6-12, and Perelman, serving pre-K through fifth grade, voted to finalize the merger agreement.

The combined school will operate across three campuses: Perelman’s Wynnewood and Melrose Park locations, and Barrack’s two-building campus in Bryn Mawr. Barrack was established in 1946, with Perelman following ten years later. Together, they serve approximately 700 students and employ a faculty and staff of 195.

The combined school will be led by Rabbi Marshall Lesack, head of Barrack.

“This is a milestone moment for the Jewish community of Philadelphia,” said Lesack. “I hope that it can also be seen as a milestone and a model for other communities to see two thriving Jewish day schools working together.”
