The healing power of the arts has always been personal to Cathleen Cohen. Art and poetry helped her cope after the loss of her brother during the AIDS epidemic.

Main Line Today is recognizing women in the Main Line region who are having a powerful impact on their respective industries, writes Gina Lizzo for the magazine.

One of those powerful women is Wynnewood’s Cathleen Cohen, Creator of We the Poets.

Cohen was named Poet Laureate of Montgomery County in 2019. She works with underserved children in Philadelphia through a program called ArtWell, a nonprofit that helps young people navigate challenges in their lives by tapping into creative expression. Cohen created We the Poets as a program for the nonprofit.

She also paints for the Souls Shot Portrait Project, a nonprofit that connects the families or friends of victims of gun violence to create portraits of the victims.

“Art and poetry as tools for connection and social action have been my life’s works,” Cathleen Cohen said.

Other women recognized include Sydney Grims, Director of Business Development for Fearless Restaurants; Dr. Tracey Jubelirer, pediatric oncologist and program director at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; and Joanne Craig, Chief Impact Officer for the Foundation for Delaware County.
