Angel Flight East, which operates out of Blue Bell’s Wings Field, links patients with volunteer pilots who fly them to specialized medical appointments, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.
“A bunch of pilots like us love to fly, and we love to give back, and we’re gonna fly anyway, so we sure like to take somebody and get them where they need to go and it’s a blessing,” said pilot Warren Hopely, of Angel Flight East.
Hopely, together with Jide Olusanya, recently provided transportation for Edward Joseph James after a vital medical appointment.
“I’m told I have a very unusual medical condition,” said James. “Some type of neurologic issues. I have all these experts in different parts of the country. It’s been really difficult, so Angel Flight has come through for me.”
The organization picked him up at his home, transported him to the airport and then to his hotel, as well as providing full transportation for the return trip.
The organization serves the northeastern United States and depends on donations to continue its work. Its next annual fundraising gala, currently scheduled for March 27, will recognize John Solt as Pilot of the Year.
