Lansdale Catholic Alum, Gabby Casey, has stepped into a starring role this season for St. Joseph’s University in Lower Merion, writes Colin Schofield for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Casey is leading the Hawks toward a potential top-four seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
After playing limited minutes as a freshman and serving as a secondary scorer last year, the junior guard has blossomed into the team’s engine. Casey now leads St. Joe’s in points (16.3 per game), rebounds (6.7), and steals (1.6), while ranking among the conference’s top scorers and shooting an efficient 48.3% from the field.
Her offensive arsenal includes a smooth turnaround jumper, midrange pull-up,s and a reliable three-point shot. She leads the Hawks with 62 triples. But coaches say her value goes far beyond scoring.
“She’s multidimensional,” head coach Cindy Griffin said, pointing to Casey’s grit, competitiveness, and ability to change games defensively.
St. Joe’s sits at 19-8 with two regular-season games remaining, and Casey has embraced the leadership role after the program lost significant experience from last year’s 24-win squad.
For Casey, it’s about consistency. She shows up daily with the same mindset and helps create a positive team culture.
