Student Art Selected for Display at New County Courthouse in Norristown

Student artwork depicting the Montgomery County Courthouse’s green dome will be permanently displayed in the new courthouse.

An artwork showing the Montgomery County Courthouse’s iconic green dome, made by two local students, will have a permanent place in the county’s new courthouse, writes Aaron Moselle for WHYY.

The original artwork was created by Grace and Daun, best friends united by their love of art. Over the course of the year, they spent hours creating pieces together, most of which were never displayed, let alone shown in a public space.

“To realize that those little doodles can become something so big that everyone can see—and people in hard places might see and can interpret, and just live in—is very extraordinary,” said Grace.

The watercolor interpretation of the dome is part of a broader collaboration with the county, which will display various artworks from local students throughout the six-story center.

The initiative began with programs facilitated by Fresh Artists, a nonprofit that works with elementary, middle, and high school students in disadvantaged districts.

In total, three student pieces, called “spectacles” by the nonprofit, will be installed in prominent locations throughout the new courthouse, along with a large mural in the cafe space and a sculpture in the atrium.
