Habitat for Humanity Invites Women to Bust Myths and Build Community

Habitat MontDelco’s Women Build returns in March 2026, uniting women and allies to build homes, break barriers, and strengthen communities.

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties is proud to announce its Women Build initiative, set to take place in March of 2026. Centered around International Women’s Day, Women Build invites teams of women and allies to join together, spend a day building a future home, and make a difference in their community.

Habitat MontDelco has a long history of prioritizing women’s equality in its work. Since the affiliate’s inception in 1989, approximately 74% of the households served have been female-led. Habitat also boasts a largely female staff, with women filling over 50% of executive positions and 76% of core staff positions at this affiliate.

These women know better than anyone what kind of inequitable myths persist on construction sites and in the workplace, and are dedicated to helping other women myth-bust and feel confident in the work they do for themselves and others.

A prime example of Women Build’s empowering impact is Habitat core volunteer Patti Post. Patti first began working with Habitat over 20 years ago when she saw an ad in the paper for a Women Build event. She said, “I thought I would be the only one at this meeting, but when I pulled up to the meeting and saw 125 cars and people, women from miles around,” she realized what a significant difference Habitat could make in her community.

Patti became a dedicated core volunteer and spends several days every week on Habitat build sites working alongside staff, homebuyers and volunteers alike. She’s now a seasoned construction expert and loves to coach other women, new to the trade or volunteering for the first time.

The influence of Women Build continues to the present day. Here’s what last year’s participants had to say about why they built with Habitat:

I am building to represent opportunities for women in construction, and to provide a home for someone to love.

Ally Construction services

Women and allies interested in participating in Women Build this year have several paths to do so.

  • They can gather a team of their peers (coworkers, friends and family, social groups, et cetera), fundraise for the Habitat cause, and spend a day building together at one of our build sites in Pottstown.
  • Alternatively, if they’d like to participate individually and meet other like-minded people through a day of service with Habitat, they can fundraise individually and join in our networking day, BuildHers, on Saturday March 28th.
  • Lunch and snacks are provided onsite, and no previous construction expertise is required, as the
Habitat construction team will provide job and safety training to all volunteers.

The build site can only accommodate 10 volunteers at a time to ensure volunteer safety, and spots are filling up
fast, so go to Habitat for Humanity to sign up and learn more.
