Four lucky families are moving into new homes in Hatfield, thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties. The new homeownership opportunity was made possible with $300,000 in contributions from state agencies, as well as volunteers donating their hours, reported Dan Sokil for Mainline Media News.

Mira Kichukova’s family was one of the recipients.

She applied to the program in 2021 after hearing that Habitat was going to be building in her community.

Her son Milen was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair. Their prior home wasn’t able to accommodate the chair, and she had to carry him up and down the stairs herself.

The Kichukovas’ new custom-designed house has wider doorways, easy-to-reach appliances, and notches in the doorways that are part of a ceiling track system to help Milen navigate all its rooms.

The Million family was another recipient of a new Hatfield home.

Originally from Egypt, the Collegeville family heard about the program through their church. The clan’s current apartment was too small.

In the new digs, however, each child has a separate room. The kids even got to have input on interior decisions on specifics like paint color and décor.
