These Fourteen Montgomery County Schools Rank Among PA’s Best

Fourteen Montgomery County high schools ranked in PA’s top 100, led by Lower Merion, Harriton, Wissahickon, and Plymouth-Whitemarsh.

Montgomery County continues to stand out as an educational hub, writes David Mekeel for The Reporter.

Fourteen of its high schools landed among the top 100 in the state in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025–26 rankings.

Leading the way were Lower Merion High School, 11th in the state, and Harriton High School 12th, both part of the Lower Merion School District. Wissahickon High School in Ambler placed 21st statewide, while Plymouth-Whitemarsh in Whitemarsh Township ranked 24th.

Other county schools earning top-50 spots include Lower Moreland, 27th, Spring-Ford, 36th, Upper Dublin, 39, Jenkintown, 40, Perkiomen Valley, 41, and Springfield Township, 48. Rounding out Montco’s top 100 finishers were Methacton, 76, Souderton, 78, North Penn, 79, and Abington, 87.

Rankings were based on six key factors: college readiness, curriculum breadth, state assessment performance, underserved student success, and graduation rates. Out of 17,901 schools reviewed nationwide, 672 were ranked in Pennsylvania.

For families across Montgomery County, the results highlight the strength and diversity of local schools — from large suburban districts like North Penn and Souderton to small community-based schools like Jenkintown — affirming Montco’s role as a leader in public education.
