A new documentary exploring the life and legacy of Bob Saget will take a deeper look at the late entertainer’s famously split persona, writes Michael Tanenbaum for The Philly Voice.
The doc will contrast his family-friendly television fame with the edgy stand-up comedy that earned him deep respect within the comedy world.
Old City-based 9.14 Pictures is producing the project. Recent work from the studio includes the Kelce documentary and Taylor Swift: The End of an Era. According to Deadline, the film will feature interviews with Saget’s family, home videos, and never-before-seen footage, though a release date has not yet been announced.
While Saget was born in Philadelphia’s Mount Airy neighborhood, his formative years unfolded in Montgomery County. After returning to the region as a teenager, he graduated from Abington Senior High School, where his interest in comedy and filmmaking first took shape. He later attended Temple University, earning a Student Academy Award for a documentary he produced as a student.
Saget went on to balance two seemingly opposite careers. He starred as America’s favorite TV dad on Full House while building a reputation as one of stand-up comedy’s most fearless voices. The upcoming film aims to explore how both sides of his career evolved, rooted in experiences that began in the Philadelphia suburbs.
