The Dogist, Once Saved by Grandma’s Dog in Narberth, Returns Home with New Book

Elias Weiss Friedman, founder of The Dogist, who was saved by his grandmother’s dog in Narberth, is back in Philly with a new book.

Elias Weiss Friedman, photographer and founder of The Dogist, who was saved by his grandmother’s dog in Narberth as a toddler, is back in Philadelphia with his new book and a new dog, Elsa, writes Dan DeLuca for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

This marks Weiss Friedman’s third publication, following two photographic collections. The latest work, This Dog Will Change Your Life, represents a departure in form – a journalistic memoir co-authored with Ben Greenman.

The author will present his new book at the Theatre of Living Arts during Dog Nation: An Evening with The Dogist on Wednesday.

A Manhattan resident, Weiss Friedman has photographed over 50,000 dogs since losing his corporate job and decided to do a dog blog in the style of The Sartorialist and Humans of New York.

“I knew I had more creative juices in me, and it was a chance to do something different,” he said.

Weiss Friedman always had a close bond with dogs since childhood, beginning after wandering away from his grandmother’s home in Narberth at age two. He was found safe after a search, with his grandmother’s dog, Oreo, trailing behind him keeping him away from busy roads.
