With the aggressive heat across the region, some Montgomery County dogs are beating the heat at Abington’s Surf Dog Swim Spa, write Stephanie Stahl and Brad Nau for CBS News.
The indoor swim center offers a temperature-controlled, pet-friendly pool that helps dogs stay safe, fit, and cool when walking outside isnt’ an option.
“You gotta be so careful with walking them on asphalt or the pavement,” said dog owner Marie Sankus. “If it’s too hot for your feet, it’s too hot for their paws.”
Owner Jim Mosteller adjusted the pool’s temperature to combat the current heat wave. “The water is cool in the pool,” he said. “Usually it’s warm, I cooled it down for this heat wave.”
Sessions run for $75 for 30 minutes. For many pet parents, it’s worth it for their dog’s health and safety.
Veterinarians are urging caution, noting extreme temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion or stroke. When in doubt, experts say to stay indoors.
