Friends from North Penn High School’s Class of 1975 gathered at Fellowship Park the day after Thanksgiving for their annual hockey game, keeping alive a tradition stretching back five decades, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.
These gatherings originated as a means for the group to reconnect after leaving for college. While some had hockey experience from school sports, others joined in just for fun. They fondly remember how Philadelphia Flyers’ consecutive Stanley Cup victories amplified the excitement of their games.
“We all came back for Thanksgiving break, and so the natural thing to do was have everybody meet on Black Friday, come right to this location here, and have a hockey game,” said Tom Morrissey.
After the first game, they decided to make it an annual tradition that has been going on ever since, with no plans to stop.
“So we did that through each year of college, and it just became a priority where we just kept it going,” said Morrissey. “So here we are, 50 years later, and we keep in touch with each other. We support each other. And when you turn 68, it means a lot to have friends like that.”
