Jake Loburak, a North Penn High School graduate and Communication and Digital Media major at Neumann University, is the winner of a $1,000 scholarship from Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia. He is one of just 20 college students in the Delaware Valley who have been selected to receive the 2020 Broadcast Pioneers awards out of more than 80 entries.

The scholarships recognize current college sophomores and juniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and professional potential.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be studying radio, TV, film production, or associated fields. They also need to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Loburak is an active member of Neumann Media, Neumann Update, WNUW radio, campus ministry, and Neumann’s roller hockey team. During his time at the university, he was the recipient of the 2018-2019 emerging leader of the year award and was also part of the production team that won the College Broadcasters national feature reporting award.

“Upon being notified that I was a recipient, I think the initial feeling was a shock,” said Loburak. “The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia is a very well-known organization, and to be recognized by them is humbling” and “a blessing.”
