Norristown’s Quinn Sullivan Tops Union Trio on MLS 22 Under 22 List

Norristown’s Quinn Sullivan ranks No. 6 on MLS’s 22 Under 22 list, leading three Union players among the league’s best young stars.

Major League Soccer released their prestigious 22 Under 22 list with Philadelphia Union’s Quinn Sullivan among the ranks, writes Owen Hewitt for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Norristown native Quinn Sullivan, 21, ranked sixth overall, the highest of the Union’s three honorees. A product of the Union’s elite academy, Sullivan tallied 11 goal contributions before suffering a season-ending ACL injury in September. His play also earned him a spot with the U.S. men’s national team during the summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup, where he gained valuable international experience.

Also featured were 21-year-old defender Olwethu Makhanya and 19-year-old Frankie Westfield, another homegrown success story from the Union II program. Both have anchored one of MLS’s strongest defenses this season, helping Philadelphia boast the league’s best goals-against average.

Conspicuously missing from the list was Cavan Sullivan, Quinn’s 16-year-old brother, whose future transfer deal with Manchester City has made international headlines. Though still developing, Cavan has already appeared in 10 Major League Soccer matches — a sign that the next Sullivan generation is on the rise.

The Union has more players on the list than any other MLS team. They will close the regular season on Oct. 18 at Charlotte FC.
