Ambler’s Copihue Bakehouse Serves Chilean Flavor with Local Charm

Ambler’s Copihue Bakehouse brings Chilean pastries, empanadas, and warm hospitality to Butler Avenue, led by baker Cote Tapia-Marmugi.

Ambler has a new culinary gem that’s making Chileans from across the region feel right at home, writes Michael Klein for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Copihue Bakehouse is named after Chile’s national flower and pronounced ko-pee-way. It opened last month at 58 E. Butler Avenue, offering sweet and savory bites inspired by the homeland of owner Cote Tapia-Marmugi.

Tapia-Marmugi grew up in Santiago before moving to Lansdale. She says her goal was to create a space that blends South American warmth with small-town Ambler charm. “I want people to go inside and feel like they’ve just stepped into a little piece of South America,” she said.

The menu features empanadas, tortas mil hojas, and sémola con leche, alongside pastries filled with manjar, Chile’s take on dulce de leche. Customers can sip mate, mote con huesillo, or coffee from Philly’s Càphê Roasters. Inside, they can browse Chilean snacks like Super 8 bars and ramitas.

Tapia-Marmugi is a former Sugar Rush winner on Netflix. Previously, she ran Mole Street Baker in South Philadelphia before joining Ambler’s growing lineup of artisanal food spots.
