Herr Foods, a family-owned company based in Nottingham, has officially passed the reins to the third generation by appointing Troy Gunden as CEO, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Gunden, a third-generation Herr family member, previously the Chester County chip maker’s president, stepped into his new role on Sept. 1, taking over from his uncle, Ed Herr.
“The company has been growing under Uncle Ed’s leadership,” said Gunden. “We have lots of big ideas, and we’d like to continue to grow our company.”
Gunden began his 21-year career at Herr’s as a route salesperson in West Chester, a role he still considers his favorite. He has been president for the last six years and will continue in that role while also serving as chief executive.
The snack company was founded in 1946 and is one of the most well-known food brands from the Philadelphia region. It operates primarily from Nottingham, where its headquarters and snack factory are located, offering tours that give all visitors a potato chip fresh off the production line at the end.
Herr’s will open its new factory for the Cheese Curls snack in Jackson, Ohio, in the next 30 days.
