Montgomery County recently brought the former executive director of the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia on board to guide its efforts toward ambitious sustainability goals, writes Katie Bernard for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The county plans to transition all of its operations to clean energy and is currently developing a hydroelectric power station in Norristown. It is also offering clean energy incentives to businesses and homes through its Montco 2040 initiative.
Devi Ramkissoon, who started last month as Montgomery County’s first chief sustainability officer, will guide the county’s strategy in achieving its sustainability goals and align efforts between the public and private sectors.
“We need to balance all of those various components in order for any sustainability initiative to be successful,” she said. “I’m really excited to set a vision and also execute on a strategy for sustainability across the entire county.”
Ramkissoon is a graduate of Swarthmore College and Georgetown University. She spent eight years working for USAID before leading the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia, where she remained for three years. Her experience centers on economic development and how it intersects with sustainability.
