Ardmore Candle Shop Owner Faces Urgent Search for Second Kidney

After a 2016 kidney transplant, Chris Holloway, owner of Cork and Candles in King of Prussia, is confronting kidney failure once more.

After a 2016 kidney transplant, Chris Holloway, owner of Cork and Candles in Ardmore, is confronting kidney failure once more, writes Chris O’Connell for FOX 29 Philadelphia.

Abington native Holloway spent three decades in the mortgage business before becoming a franchise owner selling candles after being diagnosed with the rare kidney disease FSGS.

The kidney transplant from a deceased 19-year-old man saved his life.

“It was the gift of life in that moment,” he said. “The day I woke up in the hospital after the transplant I felt amazing.”

In May of last year, Holloway’s health took a turn for the worse when he discovered his transplanted kidney was failing. He now needs a second transplant, and this time it is even more critical, as he began kidney dialysis in April for 12 hours a day. He is currently searching for a direct kidney donor match.

The co-founder of the Cork and Candles franchise, David Straub, offered to donate a kidney, but unfortunately was not a match.

“Just if there is anybody out there that is just willing to give a second chance, please because his life not only depends on it but our lives depend on it,” said Holloway’s wife Tia.
