The world took notice of Cavan Sullivan and the Philadelphia Union, writes Ben Steiner for Sports Illustrated.
At just 15 years and 280 days old, the Norristown native became the second-youngest player in MLS history to start a match in a close 1-0 loss to Nashville SC.
Sullivan is a rising star in both the Union system and Manchester City pipeline. He played 61 minutes, recorded 22 touches, completed all three of his tackles, and won nine duels. Head coach Bradley Carnell praised the midfielder’s soccer IQ, counter-pressing instincts, and composure under pressure.
The teen made headlines last summer when he debuted at just 14, breaking the record for youngest MLS appearance.
The latest milestone adds to a breakout summer for the Sullivan family. Cavan’s older brother, Quinn is competing for a Gold Cup title with the U.S. Men’s National Team. For now, Cavan remains focused on developing with Union II and seizing minutes with the first team, including a potential runout in Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup clash against the New York Red Bulls.
