Pottstown’s Gazzos Steaks is expanding into the Main Line, writes Tommy Rowan for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Gazzos, the highly talked-about eatery named after Rocky Balboa’s loan shark has opened its second location in Ardmore Park.
The steak shop is the brainchild of brothers-in-law Joe Lewis and Mike Lamson, two South Philly natives who married sisters from Pottstown. It started out as a food truck, but thanks to social media hype, it quickly became a permanent local staple.
Their signature steaks feature rouch-chopped rib-eye sourced from South Philly’s Ritter and topped with gooey layers of Cooper Sharp cheese. The fan-favorite “Sanatoga” includes a smoked Cooper Sharp aged 14 hours with friend onions. Mushrooms, onions, and cherry peppers are free.
The new Ardmore outpost is keepin it simple to start: just steaks and fries from 11 AM to 7 PM daily, or until they run out of rolls. There’s no indoor seating, but the patio and takeout window keep it casual and quick.
Soon, Gazzos will start baking their own rolls. They will partner with Conshohocken’s AJ Bread and Bakery, owned by fellow South Philadelphian Danny DiGiampietro of Angelo’s fame.
“We like the creative side of making them the way we see fit,” said Lewis.
