Bridgeport will be getting a new park at the site that was severely damaged by Hurricane Ida four years ago, writes Justin Heinze for the Patch.
The patch of land at the corner of Front Street and Depot Street has fallen into blight. It has now become overgrown with weeds and strewn with trash that has been accumulating in the years since the storm decimated the area.
“This new recreational space will transform vacant lots into a community asset, improving access to outdoor amenities in a historically underserved area,” said Montgomery County officials.
The borough has received nearly $1 million in funding as part of a recent distribution of federal aid money that is being targeted at addressing the damage that was caused by Hurricane Ida. Overall, Montgomery County has received $9 million from the funds, with $817,563 already specifically earmarked to start building Bridgeport’s new public park.
Further details about the park’s development, including the construction timeline, will be made public at a later date.
