Haverford College senior Harry Genth just wrapped up one of the most dominant seasons in Division III baseball, and the major leagues are taking notice, writes Katie Lewis for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 5-foot-7 second baseman from Baltimore launched 23 home runs and racked up 77 RBIs, finishing the season with a jaw-dropping 1.034 slugging percentage. That eye-popping stat line not only led the nation—it shattered Haverford’s record books. Genth now owns the Fords’ all-time marks in home runs, RBIs, and runs scored.
“Harry’s always worked to try to find out how good he can be,” said longtime Haverford coach Dave Beccaria. “This year, he found out.”
Though the Fords fell to Johns Hopkins in the Centennial Conference championship, Genth’s historic season—and relentless work ethic—have sparked real MLB interest. Scouts from multiple organizations have taken note, with Genth set to join the MLB Draft League this summer and already earning a pre-draft workout with the Cincinnati Reds.
Haverford College, located on the Main Line just outside Ardmore, has quietly built a reputation for developing talent with pro potential. Past players like Stephen Ridings and Tommy Bergjans were both eighth-round draft picks, and Genth may be next in line.
