The Upper Dublin High School girls swim team won the PIAA Girls Championship hosted at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium last weekend, reports Bob Kelly for FOX 29 Philadelphia.
This is the Cardinals’ first state championship since 2020. The win was cemented by Sophia Sileo-Magliari, who won first place in the 100 breaststroke.
“It was a great season,” said the team’s head coach Brandon Pierce. “They were very, very happy.”
The feat was achieved through the girls’ dedication and hard work.
“We practice twice a day, Monday through Friday, and then Saturday mornings,” said Pierce.
For some senior swimmers, this win holds a special significance.
“It feels great,” said Arina Vorobyeva. “Our team worked so hard for this. Last year we came runners up and it felt so sweet to get the championship title this year.”
Vorobyeva is moving on to Cornell University after she graduates, where she intends to further her swimming career.
Among the students returning next year, despite recently winning a major championship, they are already training and preparing for the next season.
