Abington High School student Tommi Crump, who has an insatiable passion for arts and dance, has taken her talents to new highs with a YouTube channel, writes Alecia Reid for CBS Philly.
The ninth-grader started Tommi’s Tales during the coronavirus pandemic which she reads to kindergarten children.
“To see them have a smile on their face when they hear me breathe and things and to like see them learning something new,” said Crump.
The books she chooses to read have been recycled from her mother’s days as a teacher. She was inspired to start reading to children at the onset of the pandemic. She realized the beneficial impact that reading stories had on her little cousin.
“She loved it so much,” said Crump.
Now she is spreading the love because “every little person deserves a great bedtime story.”
Her efforts have not gone unnoticed. She has been recognized as one of eight finalists in the fifth annual World of Money Online Youth Business competition. She now plans to use the reward money to give each of her subscribers a personalized Tommi’s Tales T-shirt.
