Cooking and culinary summer camps help kids build skills and confidence in the kitchen while having fun with their peers, with several options available right here in Montgomery County, writes Leigh Green for PA Eats.

Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, a day school, offers a variety of summer programs, including Kids Kitchen Camps, designed for students in first through eighth grades. Participants cook, bake, and eat together in groups while learning essential kitchen safety skills and exploring exciting new dishes and ingredients.

The Culinary Arts Camp at Lavner Education is available at Gwynedd-Mercy Academy in Lower Gwynedd Township and Waldron Mercy Academy in Merion Station. These weekly camps feature daily morning cooking sessions and afternoon baking sessions.

The Kids & Teens Summer Series at Sur La Table in King of Prussia teaches younger participants a variety of new recipes, while teens learn more advanced skills, such as working with stuffed pastas.

Meanwhile Weeklong Summer Camps are offered by Really Cooking with Robin in East Norriton to provide hands-on cooking with plenty of experimentation. Participants also learn about food safety – including the safe handling of knives.
