Bradley Cooper needed just a little convincing to make a surprise appearance in the fourth and final season of The Righteous Gemstones, write Arabella Hau and Alex Cramer for People.
Series creator and star Danny McBride, who plays Jesse Gemstone, shared how he landed Jenkintown’s Cooper for the HBO comedy’s last season. “I sent him the script and he called me back pretty quickly. He liked what was presented,” McBride revealed at the season 4 premiere in Los Angeles.
Interestingly, Cooper had never seen The Righteous Gemstones before joining the cast. “He didn’t want to watch it until after we finished shooting,” McBride said. “He didn’t want it to influence him, which I appreciate.”
McBride and Cooper previously worked together in the 2015 film Aloha, and now Cooper is adding his name to the star-studded Gemstones roster, which includes Adam DeVine and John Goodman.
As the series wraps up, McBride reflected on its wild ride since its 2019 debut. Regarding the surprising opening episode, McBride said that they wanted to push themselves and not fall into a routine.
