The Pennsylvania Senate has voted unanimously to confirm Bob Hart, the longtime East Norriton Township manager, as Montgomery County controller, writes Katie Bernard for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The position oversees the finances of the county and conducts internal audits of its departments and offices.
“What they do really has effects on the residents of the taxpayer and the county,” said Bob Hart. “Efficiencies make it better, can help relieve some of the stresses and budgetary burdens and challenges that come up.”
Karen Sanchez, who was Hart’s predecessor, resigned last year to become Abington Township’s tax collector. She was elected to the role in 2015 and then twice reelected. Hart will serve in the role until a successor is elected in 2027.
Hart was selected for the position by Gov. Josh Shapiro. His selection was sent to the Senate last month for confirmation with a number of appointments for row offices and judgeships across the state.
Hart will resign from his East Norriton position to take over as county controller. He noted his admiration for Sanchez’s work and plans to build relationships across the county once he takes office.
