Montgomery County’s Gail Weilheimer Appointed Federal Judge

Montgomery County's Gail Weilheimer is the latest Biden appointment to be promoted to federal judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Gail Weilheimer has been confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, reports Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The U.S. Senate approved her nomination on Tuesday by a narrow 50-48 vote. Weilheimer has served as a judge on the Montgomery County bench since 2014.

Before her judicial tenure, Weilheimer worked as senior counsel at Wisler Pearlstine, a litigation associate at Frank & Rosen, and an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia. She earned both her law degree and undergraduate degree from Hofstra University.

Weilheimer joins other Biden nominees recently confirmed to the Eastern District, including Kelley Hodge, Mia Roberts Perez, Kai Scott, John Frank Murphy, and Mary Kay Costello. These confirmations contribute to the Biden administration’s record of appointing 229 judges, including Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

As of December 5, 45 judges have been confirmed to U.S. Courts of Appeals, 181 to U.S. District Courts, and two to the U.S. Court of International Trade under Biden. However, 14 judicial nominations remain pending, with two vacancies in the courts of appeals and 33 in district courts.
