With the coronavirus pandemic still gripping the region, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has decided to hold its next sheriff’s sale online.

Citing a strong record of accomplishment and dedication to seeking justice for all citizens, Montgomery County Sheriff Sean Kilkenny today announced he would seek re-election to a second term as sheriff.

The announcement comes on the heels of last night’s meeting of the Montgomery County Democratic Committee, who unanimously endorsed Kilkenny’s re-election.

“I am proud to say the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office is the most progressive in the Commonwealth,” Kilkenny said. “We are truly dedicated to seeking justice and fairness for all.”

Kilkenny cited key accomplishments since being elected in 2015.

Providing courthouse security for the two trials of Bill Cosby and the trial of Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane. Kilkenny and the Sheriff’s Office kept jurors, the public, and the litigants safe during these three highly publicized trials while the county, nation, and the world watched.

Under Kilkenny, the Sheriff’s Office was the first in the Commonwealth to fully employ body cameras. Body cameras help prosecutors solve crimes by providing valuable video evidence. Body cameras also provide accountability and transparency for the public and Deputies.

The Sheriff’s Office implemented a program to assist victims of domestic violence to provide individual attention when filing protection from abuse applications. The office provides victims free cell phones during their time of need. The office also conducts monthly deadbeat parent raids to bring those who do not pay child support to justice.

Under Kilkenny, the hiring of women and minorities by the Sheriff’s Office has increased by close to twenty percent compared to his predecessor. Kilkenny promoted the first women to Lieutenant in the history of the Office.

“I am privileged to work with the best Deputies and Staff in the Commonwealth, if elected I look forward to working with them to make the MCSO the pre-eminent Law Enforcement Agency in the Nation”

Kilkenny is a retired Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel and a graduate of the Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Academy, Villanova University, Temple Law School, and the US Army War College; he resides in Jenkintown with his wife Betsy and their two daughters.

Kilkenny is the first Democrat to be elected Sheriff of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
