The Abington School District is implementing new cell phone restrictions for the 2024-2025 school year, aiming to enhance the social and emotional well-being of students while reducing classroom distraction, according to 6 ABC Philadelphia.
Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher announced the policy change in a letter to the school community.
The district will introduce cell phone holders in middle school and high school classrooms, which require students to place their devices in these holders at the start of class and retrieve them at the end.
Elementary schools will continue enforcing a strict no-phone policy throughout the day.
Exceptions will be made for students who need their phones for health or accessibility reasons, and the district plans to communicate these guidelines to parents and guardians clearly.
