Abington Township Names New School Resource Officers

The Abington Township Police Department has named two veterans of the force to be new school resource officers for the Abington School District.

The Abington Township Police Department has named two veterans of the force to be the new school resource officers for Abington School District for the 2024-2025 school year, writes Dino Ciliberti for the Patch.

According to Abington Police, Police Officers Dustin Wittmer and Drew Saurman are now looking forward to taking on their new roles.

“They will be teaming up with school staff to provide a safe learning environment while building positive connections with students,” police said.

Wittmer has been with the Abington Township Police Department for 15 years. He already served as the temporary SRO throughout the second half of last school year. In addition, he serves on the police honor guard unit and he was previously a field training officer.

Wittmer is assigned to Abington High School.

Saurman joined the police department eleven years ago. He serves on the SWAT team and is a DARE instructor.

He has been assigned to Abington Middle School.
