Lansdale Receives Huge Grant to Stabilize Neshaminy Creek

The Greenways, Trails, & Recreation Program awarded a $32,400 grant to Lansdale to secure the streambank of Neshaminy Creek.

Lansdale is set to enhance the Neshaminy Creek streambank, thanks to a $32,400 state grant, writes Justin Heinze for the Patch.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenways, Trails, & Recreation Program awarded the grant to stabilize the streambank. The aim is to control runoff and introduce native vegetation to create a riparian buffer. These improvements will reduce flooding, minimize erosion, and safeguard local wildlife while strengthening the creek’s resilience during severe storms.

“Investing in our local rivers and streams strengthens our communities and makes good economic sense for Pennsylvania,” said State Senator Maria Collett.

In addition, Lower Gwynedd Towamencin have secured $77,200 for flood prevention initiatives. $27,200 will fund the Penllyn Neighborhood Flood Study, while $50,000 will go toward stormwater basin upgrades on Grist Mill Drive in Towamencin to improve drainage and prevent water damage.

These efforts, officials say, will enhance stormwater management, reduce flood risks, and protect homes and infrastructure, ensuring a more sustainable future for the region.
