The Museum of the American Revolution at Valley Forge National Park will commemorate the 1777 arrival of the Continental Army in Valley Forge on Saturday, December 14, according to a staff report from the Museum of the American Revolution.
As part of the commemoration, the museum will set up the First Oval Office Project, a recreation of a Revolutionary War encampment. It will feature a full-scale replica of General George Washington’s sleeping marquee, that was his mobile headquarters during the campaign.
Visitors will get the opportunity to navigate the encampment and explore the tents. They can also meet costumed living history interpreters posing as the people who would have been present at the encampment.
The original sleeping and office tent used by Washington during the Revolutionary War is on permanent display at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia.
March-In Commemoration activities will be held at the visitor center area, the Joseph Plumb Martin Trail, and Muhlenberg’s Brigade.
David Bruce Smith provided funding for the First Oval Office Project programs.
