Whether we think they are cool creatures or just want to know how to steer clear of them, people are fascinated by snakes, writes the staff at PetNews 2Day.

In Pennsylvania, there are 21 native species of snake. Only 3 of them are venomous: the Eastern Copperhead, Timber Rattlesnake, and the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake.

In Montgomery County, there have been 1,030 confirmed sightings of 9 kinds of snakes. The most common to make the county home are the Gartersnake, Watersnake, Eastern Milksnake and Copperheads.

The Green Lane Reservoir is a hospitable home for the snakes. They love to be by ponds and rivers.

If you get bitten by a snake, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says you should try to remember the color and shape of the snake which will help with identifying the right treatment, and to call 911 or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
