How Joe Maccolini Spends Life in Service to Norristown

Joe Maccolini has dedicated 50 years serving his community, first as a teacher and then directing a nonprofit.

Norristown man Joe Maccolini has dedicated the last 50 years serving his community, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.

In 1982, Maccolini joined the Patrician Society where he served as the Executive Director until 2018. The non-profit works to provide Norristown’s less fortunate with food and supplies.

”I learned early on that we’re here to be of service to other people,” Maccolini said. “I’m glad that for the last 50 years, I’ve been of service to other people.”

The Patrician Society collects donations from neighbors in the community. Every Tuesday and Thursday, they give distribute food with the goal of providing enough for every family member to have three meals a day for five days a week.

In 2018, Joe Maccolini retired from the Patrician Society, but it wasn’t for him.

“Retirement was the worst three months of my life,” he said.

Maccolini quickly rejoined the non-profit, working part time as their Assistant Director.

The Patrician Society operates out of Norristown’s old St. Patrick’s School where Maccolini taught from 1974 to 1982.
