Next summer Villanova University will say goodbye to its longstanding Kennedy Hall to make room for the new Falvey Library, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.
Kennedy Hall, which houses the school’s bookstore and various offices, will be demolished, and construction of the new library will start in the summer with expected completion by the winter of 2027.
Falvey Library at Vic Maggitti Hall will be the centerpiece of the campus. It is named after 1958 graduate Victor Maggitti who donated $20 million in March 2022.
“A centerpiece of Villanova’s campus, the new Falvey Library at Vic Maggitti Hall represents a profound investment in Villanova’s future,” Villanova President Reverend Peter M. Donohue said in a statement.
“Located in the heart of campus, Maggitti Hall will have an immediate impact on our academic community, serve the university’s long-range goals, and be a source of pride for all Villanovans.”
The construction of the building is being led by New York architectural firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects, known for designing the Comcast Center in Philadelphia.
The new library will have five floors with dedicated spaces for lectures, conferences, and other programming. There will also be a research and teaching commons and a dedicated graduate student space.
