King of Prussia’s Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board (VFTCB), in partnership with the MontCo Anti-Hunger Network (MAHN), is celebrating a decade of combating food insecurity with its 2nd annual food drive, writes Molly Given for Metro Philadelphia.

This April, the initiative aims to raise $2,500, contributing to a yearly goal of $10,000, to address the escalating issue of food insecurity, equivalent to supplying 30,000 pounds.

The virtual fundraiser is part of VFTCB’s broader effort to bolster food donations, which are usually low in spring.

“An overwhelming majority of food pantries on the Main Line reported not having enough food, a dramatic change from previous years. The shortage is reflected in food pantries across the county,” MAHN’s Executive Director Shannon Isaacs told Metro Philadelphia.

In 2014, the Montco Anti-Hunger Network was created to facilitate food sharing among food pantries and reinforce the food security infrastructure in Montgomery County

Over ten years, the VFTCB has collected over 270,000 pounds of food to strengthen Montgomery County’s food safety net.
