Michelle Lombardi, an ICU nurse at Phoenixville Hospital, brought her homeless patient’s dog into her home during the man’s hospital stay, earning her a Daisy award.

Michelle Lombardi, a nurse at Phoenixville Hospital, is receiving recognition from her workplace and the community for her exceptional care for a patient, writes Justin Heinze for Patch.

Lombardi is an ICU nurse and was recently faced with a harrowing and unfortunate situation: her patient was homeless, in need of medical care, and didn’t have anywhere for his dog to go while he was receiving treatment.

The man, who was living out of his car, needed to spend extended time in the hospital while he recovered from his medical situation. He didn’t have anywhere to place his dog in the meantime, so Lombardi stepped in.

“With the patient’s permission and through the kindness of her heart, Michelle brought the dog to her house and cared for it like it was one of her own,” the hospital shared. Lombardi watched after and cared for the dog in her home and helped treat the man in the hospital.

Lombardi kept the dog until after the man was able to leave the hospital and get his own apartment. Lombardi was honored with a Daisy award for her selfless acts. The Daisy Foundation is a nationwide effort to recognize extraordinary nurses.
