6abc news anchor Alyana Gomez recently visited Crush Crew Jiu Jitsu in Flourtown to learn some of the self-defense lessons the owner is teaching teen girls to keep them safe.

The owner Omar Cruickshank began offering free self-defense classes for teen girls after an attempted abduction of a 14-year-old girl at the Willow Grove Park Mall during the summer.

He showed Gomez a few key defensive moves that any woman can use. One of the tips he gave was to make a lot of noise to gain the attention of people passing by and to rip your arm away by pulling against the attacker’s thumb.

“We got to protect our kids and our women,” he said.

Crush Crew Jiu Jitsu teaches a variety of martial arts classes for people of all ages.

The next free self-defense class for teens will be on December 29 at the Ambler Library.
