Philly-area commuters better open their wallets— as Delaware River bridges’ toll hikes will start in 2024, writes Larry Higgs for NJ.com 

This will be part of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission’s multi-tiered phased toll rate increase, approved in 2021 to mitigate revenue losses triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Three changes in the toll prices will take place next year, the first one going into effect on Jan. 1, 2024, which will discontinue the 20 percent discount for commuters. 

This discount started in 2002, originally offering 40 percent off to encourage the use of E-Z Pass. Until Jan. 1, commuters who cross any of the eight bridges operated by the commission get a 20 percent discount off their toll rates. 

On Jan. 7, a 25-cent increase will apply to E-Z pass transactions for Class 1 vehicles.
