Reviewers have been trashing Wawa's pizza online but out on the street, people are giving it some good marks.

Experts are weighing in from all over on Wawa’s new pizza offering, but what does the average Wawa customer think?’

Billy Penn at WHYY took the pulse of the man, woman, and child on the street, specifically in Center City and Old City, to find out.

Despite some trash talk from reviewers, many people who were offered free pizza samples had nice things to say.

Julie Plotnikov, a 38-year-old New Jersey resident who grew up in Philly, was pleasantly surprised.

“You asked me if it met the expectations — I would say superseded. Very good.”

Many agreed the cheese was the best part of the pizza.

“It’s warm and tasty,” said Amy, a Merion resident in her 50s. “I think it’s excellent.”

High school students Jay Banks of North Philly and Mey of West Philly said they “loved” it

“It’s not like other pizza,” Mey said.

It was described by some as a good “basic pizza,” a “middle of the night pizza.”

Isis’le Bermudez, another high schooler, said she’d eat the pizza for lunch if she had the opportunity, or, since it’s only available after 4 PM, “Late night, you know, wanting a snack, definitely pull up to Wawa.”
