The U.S. Department of Education has released the 2023 National Blue Ribbon winners and two Montgomery County schools are among the award recipients, writes Ryan Sharrow for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Elementary in Ambler, an independent school, and St. Philip Neri School in Lafayette Hill, a school in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, have been recognized this year.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors schools each year for their overall academic performance or for closing achievement gaps between a school’s student group and all students.

Six other Philadelphia area schools were also recognized, including Central Bucks High School – East in Bucks County, and J. Fithian Tatem Elementary School in Haddonfield, New Jersey.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has presented more than 9,700 schools with the award over its 40 years.
