Montgomery County parents can have their children’s car seats checked for proper safety measures during National Child Passenger Safety Week 2023.

Child passenger safety technicians will be on hand on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Limerick Fire Department at 390 W. Ridge Pike. The event is free.

Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration highlights how often parents and caregivers believe their children are in the right car seat when they aren’t. According to data, almost half of car seats are misused.

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health is participating in Child Passenger Safety Week from September 17 through September 23, 2023.

This year’s theme is “Car Safety Comes in Many Shapes and Sizes” to highlight the importance of selecting the right size care seat and using it correctly every time.

Montgomery County child passenger safety technicians are also available throughout the year to give free car seat checks, both in person and virtually.

“To ensure every child is in the right car seat that is installed and used correctly based on age, weight, and height, parents and caregivers are encouraged to schedule a car seat check appointment with our certified CPSTs,” said Elizabeth Raum, community traffic safety program manager at Montgomery County Office of Public Health.

“This free and valuable service can increase the safety of younger passengers during general travel, as well as in the event of a crash. Parents and caregivers of children of all ages are encouraged to attend, from infant seats to booster seats.”

Registration is required for the free event. To register for this event or other upcoming car seat safety checks, read more at the Montgomery County Office of Public Health.
